General Information
There is no "Gambling" skill in Ultima Online. It's taken from the luck property found on items in uo, and I've twisted it here for the game for my own evil purposes. Unlike every other skill (and every character), Gambling is Robyn Banks' one and only skill. He gets these skills after finding one of the many toys available to him in the game, either from treasure in a chest or with gold from a vendor. They can only be used in battle and they all involve randomness and luck. The higher his Gambling skill is, the more luck will be stacked in his favor. These toys include Tarot Cards, Dice, and Mahjong Tiles.
Terot CardsOnce you find a set of Tarot cards, you'll have access to them in your skill menu during battle. There are 10 different cards with 10 different effects. You will not have to collect the individual cards to use them. You'll have access to all 10 cards once you find a deck. Most of them are good but some of them are very, very bad. Use them at your own risk. Every time you use your Tarot Cards a skill gain check is performed. As your skill increases, the odds of both The Fool & The Hanged Man decrease.
Dice
Dice are much safer than Tarot Cards. There are no negative effects, but they are used mainly to deal damage and only to a single enemy. The amount of damage can vary greatly, depending on what you roll. You throw two dice at a time and skill check is performed every time you do. Here are some guidelines that govern their effect:For every 200 points of Luck, the odds of rolling a Snake Eyes increases.
- The higher the total of both dice, the higher the damage dealt.
- Doubles have a chance to deal Mute Status to the enemy.
- 7's & 11's have a chance to deal Clumsy Status to the enemy.
- Snake Eyes has a chance to kill the enemy.
Mahjong
Mahjong tiles are broken down into 3 suits of 9 tiles each of Dagger Tiles, Stone Tiles, and Symbol Tiles. There are also 4 Wind Tiles (north, south, east, and west). Using the Mahjong skill will remove all Poisons & Curses from Robyn and randomly grab one of the following Mahjong tiles and add them to your inventory:The real game of Mahjong is all about grabbing tiles and making "pairs & straights." Undeniably Sexy is no different. Pong is a set of three identical tiles. Kong is a set of four identical tiles. And Chow is a meld of three suited tiles in sequence. Each of these three skills (and Prevailing Winds) will appear in your skill menu when you have the appropriate tiles. Like reagents, using these skills will consume the tiles from your inventory.
Pong and Kong both deal more damage than Dice will deal with 2 sixes. Besides using bandages with very high skill in Healing or the Noble Sacrifice Chivalry spell, Prevailing Winds is the only other way to resurrect a person with full health in the game.
- Pong - Deal Elemental-type damage to one enemy.
- Kong - Deal (even more) Elemental-type damage to one enemy.
- Chow - Heal one ally to full health and mana.
- Prevailing Winds - Resurrect one ally with full health and mana.
Each of the Mahjong skills is intentionally designed to be super powerful. The reality is that there are 31 total tiles and you only grab a single tile every time and only in battle. You either have to find a very weak creature and spend a good amount of time doing nothing but hording tiles or gather tiles through normal use when you need to self-cure of Poisons & Curses. If you get the right tiles together, then great. If you don't, you're still rid of negative ailments. Each time you grab a tile or use any of the four Mahjong skills, a skill gain check is performed.
For every 100 points of Gambling, a Symbol Tile is removed from the pile, increasing your chances of grabbing Dagger, Stone, and Wind Tiles. At 1000 Gambling, all Symbol Tiles are removed. Even though only Chow requires suited tiles, this helps Pong & Kong as well because you're now drawing randomly into 22 tiles instead of 31.
